Liposuction: have you ever wondered about the price in Portugal in 2023?
Liposuction, also known as liposculpture, is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat or unwanted localized fat deposits from certain areas of the body, with the aim of improving body contours and remodelling specific areas.
Liposuction is increasingly one of the most common and sought-after aesthetic surgical procedures. In 2021, it was the most performed cosmetic surgery worldwide, according to the annual report of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), representing 14.8% of all cosmetic surgeries performed globally.
Well, you should know that the cost of the this procedure varies and depends on several factors. To answer this question, you first need to understand what this surgery consists of and in which areas of the body it can be performed.
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures today, as it allows localized fat to be removed with precision and less aggression for the body.
What liposuction does is remove excess localized fat - which is difficult to correct even with exercise and a healthy diet - using a vacuum suction system with minimal incisions, making it possible to improve the patient's body contour.
Liposuction is also a very versatile surgery. From the outset, the type of liposuction or the extent of the procedure will influence the price.
Although it is often performed by women who want to remove abdominal volume, it can also be used to remove fat from other areas of the body and is also increasingly being performed by men.
The main areas of the body to be treated with liposuction are:
- Abdomen
- Flanks
- Culottes
- Inner thigh
- Gluteal region
- Back
- Arms
- Bra cups
- Back
- Knees, legs, and ankles
- Pubic region ("Mount of Venus")
- Male breast (Gynaecomastia)
- Neck
If liposuction is carried out on larger areas, such as the abdomen, it will cost more than if it is carried out on smaller areas, such as the neck. The amount of fat to be removed will also influence the price.
Combination with other procedures
Liposuction can be performed on its own or together with other procedures, such as abdominoplasty, breast surgery, or facelifts.
Liposuction fat can also be used to fill in other areas of the body that lack volume, such as the breasts or buttocks, or to correct other problems, such as scars or body depression.
The cost of Liposuction in Portugal
The price of liposuction in Portugal in 2023 can range from €2,000 to €6,000, depending on the factors mentioned above.
The cost also varies according to the experience and reputation of the surgeon, the conditions and location of the clinic, the technique used, and the quality of the service provided.
However, the cost of liposuction should not be the only factor to consider when choosing the plastic surgeon/clinic where you will have the surgery.
Safety and the quality of the service provided should always come first, as you are making an investment in your health, physical appearance, and well-being, and since surgery is not free of risks/complications.
Liposuction: who is it for?
The best candidates for liposuction are people who aren't overweight and don't have sagging or excess skin, but who do have localized fat.
They should have a healthy, stable weight and firm, elastic skin.
It is not indicated as a treatment for obesity, nor is it a substitute for a proper diet and physical exercise. Liposuction does not lose weight.
Nor should it be used as a substitute for physical exercise, because although similar results can be achieved in terms of reducing fat mass, they cannot be compared to the benefits of physical exercise, especially in terms of improving the cardiovascular profile. Following a healthy lifestyle is key to maintaining the results of surgery for longer.
Although it can help improve the appearance of cellulite, liposuction is not the solution to this problem.
Do not put your health at risk!
It is essential that you go to a reliable plastic surgery clinic and choose a plastic surgeon who is properly qualified and accredited to carry out this type of procedure.
It's a delicate procedure that should be carried out carefully and safely. Before deciding, do extensive research and find out about the reputation of the clinic and the plastic surgeon. Try to find out about testimonials from other patients to get an idea of the level of satisfaction and quality of the service provided.
It is essential to check that the clinic has all the necessary authorizations to carry out the surgery, that it is equipped with modern equipment, and, most importantly, that it has a trained, experienced, specialized, and human medical team.
Choose a clinic that offers the best in terms of quality, results, and safety. You can be sure that you are in good hands.
