‘What is the price of breast implants?’: this is one of the most searched questions about breast augmentation surgery on the internet. At LMR, too, this is one of the most frequently asked questions.
Everything indicates that in 2024 breast augmentation will remain at the top of the most desired plastic surgeries. That's why it's essential to understand the costs involved when considering this procedure.
As the breast is a fundamental part of a woman's body, the decision to have breast implants represents, for many people, a transformative choice in terms of self-expression, body confidence and well-being.
Find out in this article how much breast implants cost and what factors influence the cost of this surgery.
How much does breast augmentation cost?
There is no single answer to this question, as there are many variables that make the price of this procedure fluctuate. However, for reference, the average price of a breast augmentation in Portugal at LMR starts at 4,750 euros.
Breast augmentation surgery is completely personalised according to the patient's wishes, but also according to their physical characteristics. For example, the size and shape of the breasts prior to surgery will influence the techniques and implants required.
Uncertainties about the shape and size of breast implants are common. Fortunately, there is a wide variety of breast implants.
In fact, the plastic surgeon addresses and clarifies all questions during the consultation, in which the different implants and their characteristics are presented.
Cost vs. Quality
Although price is a factor, patients should above all prioritise quality and safety when considering breast augmentation surgery.
Opting for cheaper clinics or inexperienced surgeons can entail significant risks, both for the results of the surgery and for the patient's health.
On the other hand, investing in an experienced and reputable surgeon with a proven track record is a guarantee that you will achieve the desired results and minimise the likelihood of post-operative complications.
Does the type of breast implants influence the price of the surgery?
Yes, the cost of a breast augmentation varies depending on the type and brand of implants chosen.
Thus, prostheses from leading brands and of superior quality will always have a higher price than others that are less reputable.
However, it is also the reference brands that guarantee greater safety, avoiding future complications, as well as the longevity of the prostheses.
Breast implants can last, on average, between 10 and 20 years, and it is common for them to be replaced with new implants at the end of this period.
The lining of the breast implant is another factor that determines the final price of the plastic surgery. Its coating can be polyurethane, with a smooth, micro-textured or textured surface, the latter having a higher value.
Also, the larger the prosthesis, the higher its price generally is. For example, some manufacturers charge more for larger implants, above 450ml or 500ml.
The selection of prostheses is discussed in consultation between the patient and the plastic surgeon, depending on the woman's physical characteristics and the goals she wants to achieve.
Other factors that influence the cost of breast augmentation surgery
In addition to breast implants, the price of a breast augmentation also includes anaesthesia, as well as the anaesthetist, the cost of managing and maintaining the facilities and operating theatre, the cost of materials and equipment, and post-operative follow-up.
The fees of the entire team, which includes at least nurses, healthcare assistants and the plastic surgeon, are covered by the final price.
It should be noted that a plastic surgeon's fees vary according to many factors, including their experience and specialisation in this type of procedure.
Beware of prices that are too low
If you are offered a price that is too low, be wary.
It's not possible to give promotional prices or apply excessively low prices in the field of plastic surgery because, as we've seen:
- these are complex procedures;
- it involves the work of several specialised professionals;
- it demands facilities with special conditions;
- it demands various equipment and materials;
- it includes the cost of breast implants, which must be of superior quality.
It cannot be emphasised enough that if you choose a clinic for your surgery based solely on price, you could be jeopardising your well-being and health and compromising the result you've always dreamed of.
In accordance with good practice, and to ensure the safety of the operation, the budget submitted by the clinic should cover all the services required for the surgery and the post-operative period.
Payment facilities
Generally, health insurance does not cover the cost of breast augmentation. However, there are financing options, which can be requested at clinics or through credit organisations, which allow you to pay in instalments.
At LMR we offer payment facilities. For more information, please contact our team.
