BIOGRAPHY AND CAREER
Graduated by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, she completed her master’s degree in human sexuality and is currently developing her PhD at this same institution.
She joined the University faculty academic staff in 2008 as a lecturer of the Institute of Anatomy. It is in this unit that she produces most of her research projects, mainly in the area of surgical anatomy, whilst also supervising master’s thesis for undergraduate students.
She completed several international undergraduate courses, namely Erasmus at Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia dell’Università degli Studi di Palermo (Italy) and internships at Klinikum der Universität zu Köln (Germany); Queens Medical Center – University of Nottingham Medical School (United Kingdom); Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo (Brazil); and University of Massachusetts Medical School (United States of America).
She completed her specialization in reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery at Hospital de São José – Central Lisbon Hospital Center. In the same year she became a fellow of the European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aestetic Surgery.
During her specific training in Plastic Surgery, she worked at internationally renowned institutions such as Instituto Ivo Pitanguy; Hospital Federal de Andaraí (Rio de Janeiro); Intitut de La Main (Paris); Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies of the University of São Paulo and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan).
She immediately joined the Breast Reconstruction Surgery team, having performed hundreds of aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgeries since. This is currently one of her main areas of expertise and surgical differentiation, alongside cosmetic surgery of both female and male genitalia and body contour surgery.
She assiduously participates in scientific update events, often as a speaker. She has published several chapters in scientific books and articles in national and international magazines.
She is a member of the prestigious International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery; as well as the European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery; the European Plastic Surgery Research Council; the Portuguese Medical Association; the Portuguese Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery; the Portuguese Society of Hand Surgery; the Portuguese Burn Society; and the Portuguese Anatomical Society.
