WHAT IS COOLSCULPTING?
Coolsculpting® is a non-invasive cryolipolysis treatment that eliminates up to 30% of the fat located in the treated area. It is a medical treatment, developed by scientists at Harvard Medical School and is the only cryolipolysis approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for safety and efficacy. It is a non-surgical procedure that allows you to achieve definitive results without resorting to liposuction.
THE BEST CANDIDATES FOR COOLSCULPTING®
USUALLY HAVE THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS:
- Stable and healthy weight;
- Localized fat areas that are not eliminated through healthy eating and physical exercise;
- Firm skin, with good elasticity;
- They do not consider surgical procedures;
- Realistic expectations regarding the results.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT
WITH COOLSCULPTING?
With just one session, Coolsculpting® can eliminate between 20% and 30% of the fat in the treated area. The results of Coolsculpting® are notorious after 4 to 16 weeks, at which point it is evaluated whether another treatment session is needed.
ARE THE RESULTS
DEFINITIVE?
The results of Coolsculpting® are definitive, as the treated fat cells die, are eliminated, and they are not renewed by the body. However, as with any other non-invasive treatment for localized fat or even with liposuction, it is essential to have a balanced diet and engage into physical exercise to avoid compromising the results.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COOLSCULPTING®
AND OTHER CRYOLIPOLYSIS TREATMENTS?
The main difference between Coolsculpting® and other cryolipolysis treatments is that Coolsculpting® is the only cryolipolysis treatment approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and is also the only one that has “Freeze Detect” technology, a patented technology for temperature sensors, which prevent skin burns caused by temperatures below a certain recommended level. Harvard University scientists, responsible for the development of this technology, defined an appropriate temperature for destroying fat cells without causing any damage to the tissues. The treatment is immediately interrupted if the temperature sensors detect that the temperature is below the recommended threshold and that the patient is at risk of being burned.
HOW COOLSCULPTING WORKS
Coolsculpting® is a medical technology that reduces localized fat through cryolipolysis, that is, through a controlled cooling process that destroys fat cells (apoptosis). Over time, dead fat cells disintegrate and are gradually eliminated by the body, thus achieving the same effect as liposuction. However, as it is not a surgical procedure, there is no recovery period preventing the patient from performing day-to-day activities.
Localized fat
Most people have localized fat even though they follow a healthy diet and exercise;
Coolsculpting technology
Coolsculpting technology uses controlled cooling to eliminate fat cells;
After treatment
In the weeks following treatment, the body progressively eliminates the dead cells;
Definitive Results
The results are definitive as the dead cells are permanently eliminated.

FAQ about
Coolsculpting cryolipolysis
IS COOLSCULPTING® A SAFE TREATMENT?
Yes, Coolsculpting® is a safe medical treatment, approved by the FDA. Thousands of treatments are made worldwide with this technology, deeming it a safe and effective non-surgical treatment for reducing localized fat.
HOW MUCH DOES A COOLSCULPTING® SESSION COST?
The price of a Coolsculpting® session in Lisbon depends on the number of areas to be treated and the extension of the area. For example, while the price for a small area such as the “double chin” is approximately 800 euros, a more extensive area such as the abdomen is generally priced at 1150 euros. After the body evaluation at the Coolsculpting® medical appointment, the treatment plan and its final price will be presented.
HOW MANY AREAS CAN BE TREATED IN THE SAME SESSION?
The treatment can be carried out in one or more days, depending on the areas to be treated. A treatment can take one, two, three or more hours and will be carried out according to the treatment plan and the patient’s availability.
WHAT AMOUNT OF FAT CAN I LOSE WITH A SESSION?
With just one session, it is possible to lose between 20% and 30% of the fat in the treated area. The result will depend on the patients and how they take care of themselves. To see results, you should not gain weight.
MIGHT I NEED MORE THAN ONE SESSION?
Yes. The need for a second session depends on the initial amount of fat you have and the results achieved with the first session. After 12 to 16 weeks, when the final result is visible, the need for a second session can be assessed.
WILL I GET SLIMMER WITH COOLSCULPTING®?
Undergoing Coolsculpting® cryolipolysis can cause the patient to lose some weight, although not significantly. The most visible changes are related to the loss of volume in the treated area. Coolsculpting® is not a weight loss treatment for people who are overweight or obese.
CAN I RECOVER FAT IN THE TREATED AREA?
No treatment or surgery guarantees lifetime results. The success of Coolsculpting® cryolipolysis and long-term results depends on how you take care of your body and your lifestyle after surgery – a balanced diet and regular exercise is recommended.
CAN MEN ALSO UNDERGO THE TREATMENT?
Yes they can. The procedure is indicated for all people with localized fat. Within the thousands of treatments performed worldwide, Coolsculpting® is nowadays the procedure most men seek to treat the abdomen, flanks, back and others.
DOES COOLSCULPTING® CAUSE FLACIDITY?
No, Coolsculpting® does not cause sagging. When the treatment is carried out on patients with firm and elastic skin, the tissues are able to readjust to the new body contour. When flaccidity already exists, eliminating volume in that area might make it more visible.
IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?
Coolsculpting® is almost always painless, but this can be different to some patients. During the treatment, the patient may experience a sucking sensation on the skin, stinging or numbness due to the cold. At the end of the treatment, a massage is performed, during which you may experience some discomfort, but it is usually well tolerated.
WHY DOING A MASSAGE AFTER TREATMENT?
Post-treatment massage enhances the process of eliminating fat cells. It is proven that the massage performed immediately after treatment can improve the result by up to 68% in the first two months and 44% in the fourth month.
WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON SIDE EFFECTS OF COOLSCULPTING®?
- Cooling sensation;
- Squeeze or pull, as if you were being pinched;
- Temporary numbness, redness, itching and swelling may also occur for a few weeks after treatment.
DOES THE TREATMENT HAVE CONTRAINDICATIONS?
Localized cooling is contraindicated in the following situations:
- If you suffer from Cryoglobulinemia or Paroxysmal cold Hemoglobinuria;
- Treatment on or around a hernia or on or around a diastasis recti is not recommended;
- It is not a treatment for obesity;
