What is buttock augmentation with Implants?
Buttock augmentation with implants is a growing trend in aesthetic procedures worldwide. It’s a procedure that increases the volume and improves the shape of the buttocks.
Patients with a slim body and poor gluteal projection, who want to increase the volume and projection of the gluteal area, are indicated for buttock augmentation with implants, as they don’t have enough localised fat deposits to perform a fat graft on the buttocks. In the case of patients with localised fat deposits in other areas of the body, gluteal implants can be combined with fat transfer in a combined procedure.
Gluteal implants are placed using the submuscular technique, which is safe, reliable and allows for a harmonious and natural body contour. This is because, regardless of the volume of the implant, submuscular gluteal augmentation has the advantage of perfectly covering, protecting, and hiding the implant, making it almost impalpable and invisible.
For those looking for permanent gluteal augmentation results, fat grafting and gluteal implants are the most suitable treatment options. Although gluteal fillers with the application of collagen biostimulators can offer very satisfactory visible results, it is a short-lived result that requires recurrent treatments to maintain the results.
Characteristics of ideal candidates
for buttock augmentation with implants
Candidates for buttock augmentation are patients who wish to permanently increase the size and improve the shape of their buttocks. Candidates generally have the following characteristics:
- They are looking to improve the volume, shape and projection of the gluteal region;
- Slim body, without enough localised fat deposits to achieve the desired increase with just a fat graft in the gluteal region, having to resort to gluteal augmentation with implants;
- The desire to improve the “orange peel” appearance of the skin;
- Want more obvious results;
- Skin with good elasticity in the buttocks/hips area;
- Healthy and stable weight;
- Good general health;
- Non-smokers;
- Realistic expectations.
What results can I expect
after Buttock Augmentation?
Buttock augmentation with implants improves and accentuates the body contour of the gluteal region by increasing the volume and projection of the buttocks and smoothing out skin irregularities. The result of buttock augmentation with implants is achieved 3 to 6 months after surgery.
Gluteoplasty surgery
Procedure
1. Talk to the doctor
The first step in your buttock augmentation with implants is the medical consultation. The medical team will talk to you to understand your motivations, expectations, and the results you want to achieve with the surgery. A detailed body assessment will be carried out, as well as your medical history to confirm whether you are suitable for surgery.
2. 3D simulation
You will also undergo a 3D simulation with our Vectra XT software, which allows us to simulate the outcome of the surgery considering your goals and your physical characteristics so that you can get an idea of the result that can be achieved with the surgery..
3. Detailed explanation
Finally, a personalised treatment plan will be presented, as well as an explanation of the surgery’s risks and what you can expect from the surgery and the result.
4. Budget
After the medical consultation, you will be presented with a detailed quote personalised to your case, as well as the payment facilities available at our clinic. You will also be able to book the date of your surgery, should you decide to go ahead with the procedure.
Other indications
for Buttock Augmentation
Buttock augmentation with implants is not only performed for aesthetic reasons. Other indications for buttock augmentation include:
- Muscle hypotrophy;
- Correction of congenital deformities, such as underdeveloped or atrophied buttocks;
- Correction of acquired deformities (accidents, tumours, retractions, among others);
- Asymmetries or irregularities;
- Excess sagging skin.
Type of Implants
and Technique
At LMR, we use round silicone implants; the size is selected according to the patient’s objectives and previous anatomy.
The implants are placed submuscularly; the incisions are about 3 cm long and located in the intergluteal fold (between the two buttocks).
Type of Scar
Like any surgery, buttock augmentation with implants leaves scars, which tend to become less obvious over time and are usually almost unnoticeable.
The buttock augmentation scar is small and is in the area between the two buttocks, making it very inconspicuous.
Type of Anaesthesia
Buttock augmentation with implants can be performed with sedation and local, epidural, or general anaesthesia – it depends on the areas to be treated, the combination of procedures and the characteristics of each patient. It is up to the anaesthetist to decide the type of anaesthesia for each patient.

Implants vs Fat Grafting
Implants:
Gluteal augmentation with implants is a good option for patients who want to permanently increase the volume and projection of their buttocks and who don’t have enough body fat to perform a fat graft or who want more obvious results. The submuscular gluteal augmentation technique has a high level of safety, reliability and offers excellent results.
Fat:
Gluteal augmentation with fat makes it possible to use the patient’s own fat, with a very low rejection rate. It is indicated for those who have localised fat deposits in areas of the body that can be transferred to the gluteal region. Patients are often looking not only to enlarge their buttocks but also to remould certain areas of their body using liposuction.
Gluteoplasty surgery
with Implants step by step
MARKING THE PATIENT WHILE STANDING
Buttock augmentation appointments are made with the patient standing before they are anaesthetised so that the areas of the body to be treated can be correctly visualised.
SEDATION
Sedation is injected by the anaesthetist and then, when the patient is asleep, the local anaesthetic is administered.
DISINFECTION AND PLACEMENT OF SURGICAL DRAPES
The gluteal region is disinfected to reduce the risk of infection. Operating drapes are then placed to isolate the area to be operated on from the external environment..
INCISIONS
Small incisions of around 3 cm are made in the intergluteal fold, through which the implants will be inserted.
DETACHMENT OF THE POUCH
A submuscular pocket is created for the placement of the implants.
PLACEMENT OF SIZERS
Sizers are introduced - samples like real implants that are placed before the real implants to ensure that the result matches the patient's expectations.
SOAKING THE IMPLANT IN ANTIBIOTICS AND INTRODUCING THEM
The aim is to reduce the risk of infection. After the triple antibiotic bath, the implant is then placed in the gluteal region.
CLOSING THE INCISIONS
The incisions are closed in planes using absorbable thread.
SURGICAL GLUE
Surgical glue seals the skin, does not require dressings and gradually falls off after 15 days. The patient can shower as the scar is completely isolated.
RECOVERY
The patient is woken up by the anaesthetist and then transported to the recovery room where they remain under observation until they are discharged. In recovery, they should lie on their buttocks for 1 hour. Throughout the post-operative period, the patient can sit and lie on the buttocks.
POST-SURGICAL FOLLOW-UP
After discharge, our team is available to answer any questions you may have. In the post-operative period, you should have manual lymphatic drainage, follow all the medical instructions given and be seen by our team on the days indicated.
Preparing for Buttock Augmentation
Before Surgery
- Carry out all the medical tests requested and send them to the clinic as early as possible.
- Do not smoke in the month before and the month after surgery. Smokers have a higher risk of complications, particularly healing difficulties.
- Do not take tablets such as aspirin or those containing acetylsalicylic acid, or slimming tablets in the 10 days before surgery. You should inform the medical team of any medication you take or health problems you have.
- Carefully read the documentation given to you before surgery, as there may be doubts.
- If you become ill or unwell in the days leading up to the surgery, you should inform the medical team immediately.
- Organise your personal life, as you will need help at home, especially if you have young children.
- Do you have any doubts about the surgery? Don't wait until the last day and ask the medical team all your questions beforehand.
