The transformation of Aurora
Aurora used to weigh 130 kilos. She now weighs 67.
- After losing 63 kilos, Aurora turned her life around, but her transformation was far from complete. The excess skin caused by her dramatic weight loss continued to affect her mobility, her day-to-day comfort, her ability to exercise, and the way she saw herself in the mirror.
- Over the course of several months, she was looked after by Dr Luísa Magalhães Ramos’s team as part of a phased transformation programme, which included body and facial treatments.
- This is the story of a woman who battled obesity, overcame prejudice, regained her confidence and rediscovered her self-esteem.
BEFORE AND AFTER DAWN
Procedures carried out:
Body
Dr Alice Varanda – Plastic Surgery (registration no. 47051)
A circumferential abdominoplasty, a surgical procedure recommended in cases of significant excess abdominal and lower back skin following massive weight loss. This procedure made it possible to remove excess skin and fat from the abdominal and back regions, improving the waistline and eliminating skin folds that caused physical discomfort.
Excess skin was also removed from the legs and thighs (cruroplasty), areas where there was significant excess skin, affecting gait, comfort and the ability to exercise.
In the arms, a brachioplasty, with the aim of removing excess skin and redefining the contours of the face.
In the breast, a mastopexy with prostheses, to correct the sagging caused by the loss of volume associated with weight loss, repositioning and reshaping the breasts to suit Aurora’s new figure.

The significant weight loss also had an impact on the face, causing sagging and excess skin in various facial areas.
A deep plane facelift to reposition facial tissues, improve facial contour definition and restore support to structures that have lost their firmness.
The intervention also included cervico-facial facelift, helping to correct sagging of the neck and redefine the cervical angle.
It was also held upper and lower blepharoplasty, to remove excess skin from the upper eyelids, correct fat deposits under the lower eyelids and create a more open, rested and harmonious look.
Alongside the operations, Aurora treated rosacea, a skin condition characterised by persistent redness on the face. The treatment plan included Clear V vascular laser sessions, aimed at reducing redness, evening out skin tone and improving the overall texture and radiance of the face.
THE HISTORY OF AURORA
Aurora, aged 52, came to LMR after losing a significant amount of weight.
When he decided to turn his life around, weighed 130 kg. With determination, managed to lose 63 kg, reaching 67 kg. But despite this huge achievement, she still felt that her body did not fully reflect the change she had made.
The excess skin was present in various areas of the body and face, restricting her mobility, causing discomfort and affecting the way she dressed, moved and saw herself in the mirror. “When I run, I clap for myself. Or rather, my tummy claps for me.”
The obesity had a tremendous emotional impact in Aurora’s life. “I didn’t go to parties because I wasn’t invited. In reality, I was the fat one.” “One of the times I cried the most was at a job interview. They told me I’d been hired, and when I arrived, they asked me: ‘Is this really Aurora we spoke to on the phone?’”
In light of this situation, the LMR team has developed a personalised surgical plan, carried out in several stages, with the aim of removing excess skin, improving the body contour and restoring harmony to Aurora’s face.
Today, Aurora finally feels that the reflection in the mirror reflects the transformation she has achieved over the last few years. After a long battle with obesity, she describes this phase as a fresh start. For the first time in many years, she feels comfortable in her own body and able to go about her daily life without the limitations that used to be part of her routine.
More than just a physical transformation, this process has had a profound impact on the way Aurora relates to herself and others. She feels more confident, lighter and happier, finally able to turn the page on a chapter marked by insecurities and emotional distress.
The transformation enabled her to feel good about her appearance again and to start a new chapter in her life with greater confidence, self-esteem and quality of life.
